The Brazilian series premiered last Friday (5th) and is already among the top five most-watched non-English language productions on the platform this week.
The series “Desperate Lies,” starring Juliana Paes and Vladimir Brichta, has entered Netflix’s top 5 most-watched series. The list was released this Tuesday (9th).
Each week, the streaming service shares a list of the top-performing productions on the platform worldwide. Just days after being added to Netflix’s catalog, “Desperate Lies” made its debut on the list of the most-watched non-English language series globally.
The melodramatic series, classified as a “telenovela” by Netflix’s description, reached the fifth position on the global top list. Under the title “Desperate Lies” (“Mentiras Desesperadas” in free translation), the series amassed 1.8 million views since its premiere last Friday (5th).
“Desperate Lies” also ranks in the top 10 series on Netflix in 21 countries, including Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Kenya, and others.
Among the other language series that dominated Netflix’s most-watched productions globally, the Spanish series “Gangs of Galicia” is in the first place.
In “Desperate Lies,” Juliana Paes plays Liana, who is married to Tomás (Vladimir Brichta). She becomes pregnant with twins but discovers they have different fathers, a rare case of heteropaternal superfecundation. While one father is her husband, the other is someone from her past.
