Brazilian forward celebrates the warm welcome from Real Madrid’s squad during his first few months at the club: “Whenever it’s time to joke around, we joke around. When it’s time to give someone a hard time, we do it.”

On Tuesday, Endrick scored his first goal for Real Madrid in the Champions League, in a 3-1 win over Stuttgart. Or was it a goal by “Bobby”? The forward’s nickname in the Spanish team’s locker room has definitely stuck, and he’s okay with it.

— My name is Endrick. As everyone knows, the “team” is very important to us, our unity. We joke, we laugh with each other. Whenever it’s time to have fun, we have fun. When it’s time to get serious, we get serious. I’m very happy to be part of a group like this. I thank them for standing by my side — Endrick told “TNT Sports.”

The whole group welcomed me really well, not just the players, but the coaching staff, the team staff. I haven’t been at Real Madrid for long, but I’m working hard and I’ll always do my best to help the team.
— Endrick, on adapting to Real Madrid.

The former Palmeiras forward earned this nickname at Real Madrid because of one of his idols, according to him: the legendary England and Manchester United player Bobby Charlton. Endrick has mentioned several times that Charlton is one of his role models.

Interestingly, Bobby played from 1957 to 1976 and passed away in October of last year at the age of 86. Since Endrick idolizes a player who retired 30 years before he was born, he’s become the subject of jokes among the Real squad, especially from Bellingham. The Englishman was the first to spread the nickname, which caught on in the locker room.

— Now it’s Bobby, the nickname stuck, no doubt about it. I’m really happy for him that he scored a goal. Scoring in the Champions League is very special, and I know the joy he’s feeling. I hope he scores many more — Rodrygo said, commenting on his teammate’s new nickname.

Endrick was officially presented as a new Real Madrid player on July 27 of this year, in front of thousands of fans at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. In five official matches for the Spanish team, he has scored two goals — in just 20 minutes on the field.
